Audience Ideology

We decided on our target audience being teenagers/young adults aged between 15-22 as we think our genre of social realism would more relatable to this age group. To adjust to our target audience we are including 'Propp's character types' theory such as the 'victim' character, which is clear with some of our characters such as the homeless woman and the victim of sex trafficking, as they are portrayed in our short film as being victims of society and external forces that are out of there control.

Our group also uses 'Propp's character types' as we use villains in our storyline, such as the Mother and sex trafficker. We felt using two of the character types of the Victim and the Villain would be effective as they are binary opposites (Levi-Strauss' theory) and we think this would make it clearer to our target audience at how we want each of our characters to be portrayed.

Target Audience

 

Due to our genre being Social Realism, which we hope we can use to express issues such as drugs and prostitution, we believe our target audience should be teenagers/young adults as we believe these types of issues would be more relatable to that age group. To make sure that this target audience best suits our genre and ideas we decided to ask our focus group what target audience they believed suits our short film the best.

The group agreed with us, and therefore we came to the conclusion that young adults, aged 15 - 22, would be the age group best suited to our genre of social realism and within our short film.
