codes and conventions of the kite runner review

  • The image is a film review from the magazine Empire and uses a still shot from the film itself; taking up nearly half of the page. This is a code and convention of a film review page because a large image attracts the audience, making them want to read the entire review.
  • This review also has a quick fact file on the top left of the article which states what cast are involved in the film, the running time, the director and the certificate rating of the film. This is almost a summary of the review as a quick way for the audience to get their information; a typical code and convention for film review pages as reading the summary could perhaps make the reader want to read the rest of the article after seeing what it includes.
  • The main text consists of talking about the director, Marc Forster, and comparing this film to his other films such as 'Finding Neverland'. The text then goes on to summerise the plot of the film. This is done to entice the reader to watch the film if they like the sound of it from the article.
  • At the bottom of the poster there is a pull quote which talks about the director, this is bolder and bigger than the main text to try and intrigue the reader into reading the review.
  • The language involved in the article is colloquial which gives a more intimate feel to the reader and makes it sound like a normal conversation. This is a generic convention of a film review page as it makes the audience feel as if they can relate to it.
